Container Walk
Wellington 2013
Mick Douglas
walk
walk into a shipping container
walk nowhere
walk with me
A surprising journey of patterns, pacing, individual and collective effort unfolds as personal and public experiences gather momentum one foot after another.
Mick Douglas is an Australian artist whose live art performance projects create situations of social engagement through forms of movement. For ‘container walk’, Mick walks the duration of the festival in the wondrous distances of a shipping container. Recent works in Melbourne include: Live House a mobile performance platform project, in collaboration with residents of an inner city Melbourne government Housing Estate; and W-11 TRAM: an art of journeys, a temporary public project undertaken on a tram transformed by vehicle decorators from Karachi with onboard performing hosts and guests, operating one night per week over a 20week summer season in Melbourne (commissioned by the cultural festival of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, carrying 80,000 passengers for free).
