WELLINGTON 2015

The curatorial concept for The Performance Arcade 2015 was that of a 'layered space': acknowledging the cumulative approach to themes within the event, and its gradual crafting through earlier presentations from 2011-2014. It celebrated the Arcade as a live performance laboratory, where ideas have been tested and developed over five years of presentation. As such, the festival utilised recogniseable elements from previous years, layered over with new approaches and new programmes to enhance certain elements. This concept of 'layering' also related to the way that individual components added to the overall event, and how a dense programme of events was created for this presentation that spilled out into the city. Within the Arcade, architectural interventions push through (and layer over) the familiar layout of containers. In this way the event celebrated its five years of development, and the many creative contributions that have shaped it over that period.
