Karaoke Stories II

Wellington 2013

Meg Rollandi and Thomas Press (Has Potential)

Karaoke Stories II investigates how music evokes memories and encourages storytelling and sharing. The risky, playful performance of karaoke singing is accompanied with the invitation for a more personal and intimate gesture - to share a story of our own. This project extends from the Arcade into the city through screens at other locations, each playing footage collected from the previous day’s performances. Updated daily, these compilations and an online archive of stories creates a snapshot of Wellington’s many lives. This is the second iteration of the work since it was presented as part of the 100° Festival in Berlin.

Thomas Press is a Wellington based sound designer and composer. He is graduate of the New Zealand School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Composition (2009) and Toi Whakaari- New Zealand Drama School with a Diploma in Entertainment Technology (2005).

Meg Rollandi is a an artist and designer. She has a Masters in Design from Massey University (2010) and is a graduate of Toi Whakaari & Massey University - Bachelor of Performance Design (2007). After working together on a range of performing arts based projects Thomas and Meg formed Has Potential this year for the Performance Arcade 2013.
