Jackie Wilson
(with Florian Habicht)

A dance video installation about constriction, space and the female body presented at the end of a long 40’ container. The work was shot in 2005 and exhibited in 2012 at the Black Asterisk Gallery.
On completion of her contemporary dance training and taking on the many different styles of movement required, Wilson decided to let all it all go in order to find her own physical voice. Like learning any language it was the challenge of finding the unique character and expression that has driven this work which includes video, collaborating with filmmaker Florian Habicht.

Jackie Wilson has been making dance in NZ since the 1990s, with STAB commissions and presentations in Dunedin, Wellington and Auckland.
Florian Habicht is the poster boy of NZ independent film – with a number of feature films and documentaries to his name, including the recent Love Story (NZIFF 2011, HotDocs 2012, Melbourne IFF 2012, New Horizons Poland 2012, and Rooftop Film Series NYC, 2012). This film won Best Film and Best Director at the 2011 Aotearoa Film and TV Awards.
Helen Todd is an acclaimed lighting designer, working primarily with Mau Dance Company on productions that have toured the world to venues like Southbank Centre (London), The Lincoln Centre (New York) and the Venice Biennale.
