Mick Douglas

A man inhabits a shipping container. He leaves the door open for strangers, for air, for light, for encounters. He is laboring in this container – making. He is making a container for all. He is forming and transforming containers. He works with simple materials: cardboard, boxes and found vessels.

Mick Douglas is an artist whose last decade of socially engaged artwork explores relationships between aesthetic experiences of mobility, hospitality, cultural, change, practices, and sustainability. Projects include W-11 Tram: an art of journeys, commissioned by the cultural festival of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games; the art activism project Tramjatra: imagining Melbourne and Kolkata by tramways' (also a book of the same name, RMIT University Press / Yoda Press); Ride-on-dinner, an urban meal adventure exploring relations between the human body a swarming social body and the body of the city; LiveHouse, a mobile performance platform exploring expressions of cosmopolitanism; and Container Walk for The Performance Arcade 2013.
