Ura Tabu Pacific Dance
The goal is to present a live visual display of Pacific Island cultures in the form of life size performing“Barbie Dolls”. Tongan, Samoan, Cook Island, Maori and Hawaiian dancers will be individually displayed on podiums as a “Barbie” as if in a display box. Passers-by can set the Pacific Barbies off or ‘push play’ on their individual CD player which will activate them to perform their cultural dance.
Ura Tabu dance has produced various works in Auckland and Wellington over the past 5 years, including the Tempo Festival, Te Papa Tongarewa, and the Honolulu Festival in Hawaii.
