Touch Compass Dance (Suzanne Cowan choreographer performer)

An installation and performance worked based on themes of restriction and freedom which relate to sexuality, disability and the inherent vulnerability of all human beings, disabled or non-disabled. The container will feature a rope installation, including tied (shibari-style) still-life objects in the space alongside video and live performance. The aim of this performance project is to engage with diverse bodies in a non-threatening way and to subvert concepts of restriction and freedom.

Touch Compass is New Zealand’s only professional integrated contemporary dance company. Our performances include dancers with and without disability. A Creative New Zealand Recurrently Funded Arts Organisation, the company has won national and international acclaim for its ground- breaking performances.
From 2000 to 2003 Suzanne performed internationally in 24 countries with UK-based CandoCo dance company.
