Jason Maling

Jason Maling:
”Metaphobia and Generalised Indifference Disorder are becoming increasingly prevalent among art patrons the world over. Symptoms are often misdiagnosed as semantic maladjustment and remain untreated leading to acute cases of passivity tension. As a refurbished, world-class art institution the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney recognized the need to provide on site services that addressed the gamut of contemporary anxieties, ranging from mild conceptual perturbation to severe relational deficiency”.

Jason Maling has guided people towards publicly spanking each other on the original site of Lords Cricket Ground, had them crawling on their knees in penance through the streets of the London financial district and remapping cities in France with sharp sticks.
He designs systems for shifting locations and social settings where the work becomes a collaboratively mediated tool. People enter and exit the systems as they choose, some becoming involved over extended periods of time. Since 1995, he has developed projects that operate as collaborative exchanges with specific communities.
He is currently operating as The Vorticist and offering himself as a colour auditor to the Australian business community.

Presented in partnership with City Art Gallery, where the main body of Jason Maling’s work will be shown. Elements of this work will be installed within the Arcade environment for the duration of the event.
