Admitting the Possibilities of Error - in Wellington

Wellington 2015

Kirsten Lavers

Over 5 days and 60 hours of drawing, Kirsten Lavers will repeatedly attempt to draw ever-smaller perfect circles. Whilst drawing, Kirsten invites visitors to share their experiences and feelings about making mistakes, going wrong, failure and error. She will use pens and pencils she has borrowed, found, swapped, or been given in Wellington. The outcome of this meditative and mesmerising drawing performance will tell a story of her mistakes and interactions with our city.

THE CONTAINER SERIES

A former nurse, Kirsten Lavers trained at Dartington College of Arts in the UK, formed The Zwillinge Project 1992 – 96 with Melanie Thompson subsequently collaborating with cris cheek as TNWK 1997 - 2007. More recently she has worked on a series of long-term public art projects involving homeless people in Cambridge. Kirsten’s work very rarely appears in galleries and is always made in response to a specific site or public space, her approach is collaborative, closely involving the people whose space she is responding to as well as other artists.
