After residencies with Blast Theory (UK) this pervasive performance company returns to the Arcade with a work that is simultaneously an interactive sound installation and a treasure hunt. It invites the public to ‘tap into the wires’: listening in on recordings that draw from civilian conversations and materials appropriated by the NSA and given back to the public through the Freedom of Information Act. Each ‘listening post’ is a specially marked small metal utility box with a headphone jack in its base that might be attached to a lamp-post, pole or bus stop. Audiences are invited to plug their headphones in to listen to the curated soundscapes, that explore themes of surveillance, privacy, and freedom.
