Demos is a public installation arranged along the south and west waterfronts of Te Papa Tongarewa. A series of percussive devices are arranged along the lamp posts of the Wellington Waterfront Walk, with each device programmed to resonate its lamp post to a distinct pitch and timbre. Visitors walking across the promenade hear the composition evolving according to their pace, and can determine their own experience by varying the direction and speed of their route. Along with the sonic graffiti, posters are placed on each post as prompts for visitors to interact with the twitter channels monitored by Demos’ counterpart installation Krotos, placed on the intersection of the south and west walkways, with each sent tweet will cause Krotos to produce audiovisual elements.
