Do you have an object connected to a story that is no longer useful to your present? The essence of the object is its power, not the form. Work with me to help the object loosen its grip on the narrative. Let the narrative breath and be transported into the present. Bring an object that is fibrous or breakable to be transformed. Examples include pages of books, letters, clothing, photographs, porcelain plates, pillow cases, and more. After recording the story of the object, we will perform a positive, ritual breaking down, disassembly or destruction of the object that will then be pulped, reformed, rebuilt, or embedded into handmade paper. The stationary shipping container is a vessel to bring narratives from the past and into the present. Half the paper will stay with the participant and the other half will be made into a work encapsulating the space and people of Wellington.
Jennifer Seastone is visual artist and an actor with an MFA from City College's Digital and Interdisciplinary Arts Practice and a BFA from NYU. She was nominated for the Dedalus Foundation Fellowship, received two Connor Merit Awards, one Connor Study Abroad Grant for a residency in Puebla, Mexico at Arquetopia, and has attended the Vermont Studio Center. Jennifer has shown at The Invisible Dog’s Glass House, Uncanny Valley, Dixon Place, the New York ITFF, and twice at the CG Gallery; dance/theater pieces at The Incubator, Danspace Project, Dixon Place; and as a performer she won a 2014 New York Innovative Theatre Award for The Gin Baby, performed for Julia Jarcho/Minor Theater, The Wooster Group, Daniel Fish, Alec Duffy, Hal Hartley and others. She is also the founder of the OBIE award winning performance series Catch. Jennifer was born and is based in New York City.
