And the Earth Shifted Beneath My Feet

Wellington 2019

Human Project Aotearoa

The stories and experience shared in this work are verbatim, and of real people living in Aotearoa today. This whenua is a rich tapestry of cultures and languages, uprooted from their origins, landing and bedding deeply into this new place of belonging. The soil beneath is connective and ancient.

Champa J. Maciel grew up in Australia and graduated her New Zealand School of Dance Diploma in 2008. Since then she has been working professionally as a choreographer, movement director, dancer, tutor and actor in Hawke’s Bay. Champa was movement director on two works for the Hawkes Bay Arts Festival in 2018, for Puti Lancaster’s work ‘Freedom is Behind My Breath’, and co-creating and performing in META. She is a co-founder of the Human Project Aotearoa.
Sophie Jean Follet is a dancer, choreographer, dance teacher and studio owner. Sophie studied dance at the University of Auckland where she completed her Bachelor of Dance Studies with honours. She has performed in multiple dance works for festivals, including Short and Sweet, Tempo and the Youth Dance festival in Singapore. Sophie currently runs the Sophie Jean Dance Company and teaches dance in schools. She is a co-founder of the Human Project Aotearoa.

Outstanding human and sound creator, Rosie Langabeer. Also the wonderful people who shared their stories and gave us permission to craft them into this piece.
