Do you find it hard to know what you are looking at? Wondering if you are looking the ‘right’ way? Take an Audio Tour of the Performance Arcade. This free self-guided tour enables you to encounter and interpret this art event in your own way. Starting at the main Arcade site the tour winds you along the Wellington waterfront, finishing at the New Zealand Portrait gallery. You will need to bring your own wi-fi enabled smartphone and headphones to stream the audio experience. Forgot your headphones? Visit the Performance Arcade shop between 10am – 11pm to borrow a pair. Experience the Performance Arcade with fresh eyes. Just look for the Audio Tour symbol along the pink line.
Paula van Beek is an artist and art educator based in Wellington. Within an expanded performance practice her work investigates the performance of identity in public/private spaces with a focus on feminine experiences.
Paula has a long history of creating and supporting innovate performance works. She has travelled widely with her work with projects across Australia, in the US, Colombia, and Indonesia, training in the UK, residencies in Europe and teaching in Tokyo. She has made performance works in car parks, theatres, hallways, galleries, on riverbanks and online.
Based in Melbourne for the part 12 years Paula gained a Graduate Diploma in Animateuring from VCA (2006) and has just completed a Masters of Fine Art at RMIT. Her practice-led project examined self-surveillance and the social media obsession with the selfie.
