AVE

Wellington 2019

Ufitia Sagapolutele

I am repeatedly told that I am a condemned type of breed. I am a brown object used by white hands. Koko runs through my skin, yet unknown soils run deep within. Unholy body of men, I exist solely for them. To cry or not to cry, my future is now colourless. // AVE is a dance work about six Samoan women who explore ideologies around colonisation, cultural belonging, and the challenges they face as New Zealand-born Samoan women on their search for identity. Six personal stories are explored through elements of Siva Samoa, hip-hop and contemporary dance.

Ufitia Sagapolutele is a Samoan interdiscplinary artist from Aotearoa, New Zealand.
