TALES FREY (Brazil, 1982) lives and works between Brazil and Portugal. He produces works supported by visual and scenic arts. At this time, he is developing a research in his Post-Doctorate course at the CEHUM – University of Minho. He got a Doctorate degree in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Coimbra in Portugal and BA degree in Theatre Direction at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He also did a specialization in Contemporary Artistic Practices and a MA degree in Art Theory and Criticism at the University of Porto.
Some of his works belongs in strong art collections: Serralves Museum in Portugal, Museum of Contemporary Art of Niteroi – MAC Niterói, Museum of Contemporary Art of Sao Paulo – MAC-USP, Biennial Foundation of Cerveira in Portugal, Instituto Municipal de Arte y Cultura de Puebla in Mexico and Pinacoteca João Nasser of Catanduva in São Paulo State, Brazil.
Received the Acquisition Premium Municipality of Vila Nova de Cerveira in the XIX International Biennial of Art Cerveira (2017) and Honorable Mention in the 2nd Gaia International Biennial of Art 2017. Also, he got an award as “Best New Artist” in 18º Salão Contemporâneo in Salão de Artes Plásticas de Catanduva (annual event from São Paulo state). In 2006, he got an award of “Best Costume” in Aldeia FIT (Festival of Theatre from Rio Preto, São Paulo, Brazil).
He showed works in the following contexts: Performance Platform Lublin at Galeria Labirynt in Poland; Rapid Pulse International Performance Art Festival at Defibrillator Gallery in Chicago; SESC Avenida Paulista in Sao Paulo, Athens Museum Of Queer Arts (AMOQA) in Athens; ATMO in Berlin; SESC Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro; Teatro Municipal Rivoli in Oporto; Casa França-Brasil in Rio de Janeiro; DARC in London; tpa Exchange at the Galleria Moitre in Turin; I Maia Biennial; Kuala Lumpur 7th Triennial - Barricade; The Biennial 6th Bangkok Experimental Film Festival (BEFF6); The Kichen in New York at the launch of the Emergency Index Vol.1; Zsenne Art Lab in Brussels, among others.
