Boxer

Wellington 2021

Jacqui Bolletta

A long time fascination with boxes, labels and paranoia led to the development of BOXER. A single unit that drifts through life never certain who is watching or from where. An alien in a cyberpunk peep show. A pimped out punk ballerina. The music box dancer reluctant to dance. An internal world exposed. Differing views from varying angles offer simplistic takes on complicated consumption with social perceptions.

Jac Wilson trained in contemporary dance in New Zealand and has worked mostly in film with friend and colleague Florian Habicht. Working on cross-cultural listings magazine Live Art Magazine in London in the mid 90’s she became more and more interested in working with technology and collaborating with artists from different art forms which have included light (Helen Todd, White Dwarf); photography (Vincent Bolletta, Mute); and her ongoing collaborations with Habicht (Liebestraume; Woodenhead) including her own short film, Boxer (which Habicht filmed), presented at The Performance Arcade 2014 in Wellington. Most recent work was for Sunken Seas’ music video Mirage.
Currently living in Dunedin she continues to work on movement material.
