Bird of Passage, a new Te Toki Haruru project, created by Charles Koroneho. The work explores an augmented environment of technology, installation and durational performance for live and digital spaces. Solo performances traverse a hybrid presentation landscape of lighting, sound design and video projection. Sing of her love. The firstborn, transformed violation, spirit guardian. Incantations fly across a lamentation sky. Atamira, an ancient stage. Theatre of the night goddess. From obsidian eyes flare the light of decomposition. Spirit fleeing a terminal cycle, body loved by black fire and endless dark. A burial platform, perched high like an owl calling unrecognisable names. Bird of passage, a lifetime you have pulled me from my body. Brought me here to contemplate silence and dark kindness. Burial companion, surround me with the songs of the living and let me glimpse for a brief moment, the afterlife.

Charles Koroneho works in the fields of performance and culture. He created Te Toki Haruru to explore cultural collaboration and the intersection between dance, theatre, visual arts and design. Koroneho is a graduate of the New Zealand School of Dance and Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland. His projects are presented as performances, exhibitions, research workshops and arts collaborations exploring the collision between Maori cosmology, New Zealand society and global cultures.
